16 Chemicals proposed to be added to the Toxics Release Inventory List

A new proposal by the EPA would add 16 chemicals to the Toxics Release Inventory(TRI) list of reportable chemicals.  The TRI list is a public database that contains information on toxic chemical releases and waste management activities that are are reported on a yearly basis by industries and federal facilities.

The chemicals that are being proposed to add have been classified ‘reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen’ by the National Toxicology Program (NTP) in its Report on Carcinogens (RoC) document. Along with these, there are 4 chemicals on the initial list that are being proposed to add the to Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds (PACs) category.  Chemicals that are labeled in the PACs category are found to remain in the environment for a long time causing serious effects to those around.
