Did you know that the month of January is ‘Radon Action Month’?
Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas that could be lurking in your home. Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer, causing 20,000 deaths nationwide every year.
January is the perfect month to test for radon levels in the home because during the winter month people have sealed their house to keep out the cold. By preforming a radon test this will give adequate readings and will help you determine if there is more action you need to take in your home to reduce the amount of radon.
If you like you can purchase a radon gas detector kit from your local hardware or building supply store, which usually run $25. The test kit comes with instructions on how to preform the test and include an envelope to mail your analysis to the lab. The results are then mailed back to you letting you know the radon levels in your home and if any action is needed. You can also search on the web for professional radon testers in your area. The EPA recommends to make sure the professional you hire is certified and to ask to see their mitigator’s credentials.
